BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal joined Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer Bob Bondi, East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Kip Holden, and Baton Rouge Area Chamber President and CEO Adam Knapp to announce Affirmative’s decision to consolidate its corporate operations center from Chicago to Baton Rouge’s Bon Carre’ Business Center.
Affirmative Insurance Holdings’ consolidation in the Baton Rouge area means the company will make a $1.2 million capital investment, create 56 new direct jobs averaging $26,400 plus benefits, and maintain 200 existing jobs averaging $40,000 plus benefits.
Governor Jindal said, “Today’s announcement of job retention and job creation is another sign that Louisiana is not just competing in the global economy, but we are winning business investment and working to aggressively grow our economy. Throughout the national recession, numerous companies have invested in Louisiana by relocating to or expanding in our state. These decisions reflect the recent improvements we have made to our business environment, as well as our aggressive economic development efforts.”
Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer Bob Bondi said, “Our experience has shown that Baton Rouge offers both the workforce and business climate in which to grow our business. As we restructure our operations nationally to achieve the greatest efficiencies possible, we are pleased to significantly expand our presence in Baton Rouge.”
Louisiana Economic Development and the City of Baton Rouge / East Baton Rouge Parish each will provide performance-based financial assistance of $97,000 toward the cost of a backup generator, and Affirmative also intends to utilize the state’s Enterprise Zone program or the Quality Jobs program.
Affirmative Insurance has major operations centers in Chicago, Dallas and Baton Rouge – and all three were considered for the operations consolidation. The company said they decided on Louisiana because of the quality of the state’s workforce, an excellent business climate that fosters growth, and the support of local government that is aggressive in generating business growth within the community.
Holden said “The fact that this Chicago-based operation is relocating to Baton Rouge proves again that we can compete with any city in America for new business and jobs for our city and parish. There is excitement around the country about the good things going on in Baton Rouge, and companies like Affirmative know we have a strong local economy that will serve them well.”
Knapp said, “We continue to recruit prominent, successful companies from major U.S. cities to the Capital Region – and that is testimony to our area’s many strengths. Our region’s economic growth, available workforce, infrastructure like the Bon Carre’ Business Center, and aggressive incentives all work together to attract new business. We welcome Affirmative to Baton Rouge and fully expect others to follow suit.”
