A Baton Rouge woman is desperately hunting for her missing dog and as FNBR’s Emily Turner reports, she’s taking her search to new heights.
Its not your typical billboard, a woman offering a $5,000 reward for her lost dog. It’s not just any dog, Tamara Jarret says it’s her best friend. “I found Samantha when she was a puppy. She was dumped with a whole litter and it was clear from the start that that was my dog and we’ve been inseparable ever since.”
While Jarrett has opened her home to 60 dogs in similar situations, she describes her bond with the Golden Retriever-Collie mix to be something she’s never shared with any other animal. “I’d say Samantha, you stink, and she’d go get in the bathtub. She can say Momma and she’ll bark twice, ruff ruff, momma!”
A relationship so strong that she feels her week vacation to North Carolina in the last month of December is why Sam went missing. “When I came back I think she was upset with me and I let her out that morning. I said we have somewhere to be in 30 minutes, don’t go very far and she looked back at me and took off into the woods, never to be seen again.”
It’s been nearly a month and a half since Sam’s disappearance, but Jarrett is convinced she is still out there and ready to come back home. She has looked everywhere, searching the woods, the side of roads, and found nothing, so she believes her Samantha is still alive. “Until I would know for sure otherwise, I’ll have hope and in hope I’ll have faith I’ll keep looking, I’ll never stop looking, never, ever.”
A friend of Jarrett’s put up the money for the reward in the case. She said it was the least she could do after all Jarrett has done to rescue other dogs.
