Police: Mobile Officers Justified in Shooting
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A top police official in Mobile says five
officers who killed a bank robbery suspect in a hail of 44 bullets
were justified because he pointed a weapon at them.
The internal investigation was completed this week. Seven of the
bullets hit 46-year-old James Hill, whose weapon was actually an
air pistol. Authorities say the man from Lake Charles, La., held up
a teller at an RBC Bank on July 23, then led police on a chase. He
crashed his car near the intersection of Three Notch Road and U.S.
Chief Deputy Chief Lester Hargrove said Hill then held a gun
outside the window and pointed it at the officers, prompting them
to fire at him.
