Rape Charges Against Ex-Cop
EDGARD, La. (AP) - Sheriff Wayne Jones says a former St. John the Baptist sheriff's deputy who was arrested last month on theft charges has become the center of an ongoing investigation that includes allegations of rape.
Jones said Tuesday he requested that the state police investigate the accusations of several women who said that Sgt. Tommy Young Jr. raped them or their daughter.
Detectives uncovered the accusations during an investigation into Young, who was arrested on Aug. 20 after authorities say they discovered him selling sheriff's office property on eBay, an online auction site.
Meanwhile, Jones said that Young is facing additional charges of
tampering with evidence, theft and malfeasance after authorities found several items related to crime investigations at Young's home.
