Self Defense Shooting

Authorities call a case of self defense. A Livingston Parish woman shot and killed her neighbor early yesterday morning. To deputies it was an act of self defense, but to a mother this shooting was cold blooded murder.

The shooting happened Sunday around 2:00 am in Denham Springs. Investigators say 46-year-old Suzanne White shot her neighbor, 26-year-old Mark Lockwood after deputies say Lockwood held a knife to her throat. Jason Ard with Livingston Sheriff’s Office says, “She convinced him to remove the knife from her neck while she retrieved the gun.”

Police say the shooting appears to be self defense but Lockwood’s family is having a hard time believing White’s story. Lonnie Morris, Lockwood’s stepfather, says, “I don’t understand why he would have a knife on her and tell her to go get the gun. I mean that doesn’t make any sense, it just doesn’t seem right to me.”

Vickie Lockwood, the mother of Mark Lockwood says her son was only trying to defend his sister who had an altercation with White earlier that day. “He probably went over there and she might have said she was going to shoot Ashley, his sister, and he might of asked her where was the gun, but I’m sure he didn’t put a knife to her throat.” His mother says her son wasn’t perfect, but wouldn’t hurt anyone. Investigators say the shooting was in self defense. The case will now be turned over to the District Attorney’s office.

So far no charges have been filed against White.
