St. Bernard: Housing Deadlines Met
CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - After a federal judge ruled last week that St. Bernard Parish was in contempt of court by continuing to block construction of four mixed-income apartment complexes in Chalmette, parish officials on Monday said they met all court-mandated deadlines.
A building permit still has not been issued, officials said, because developer Provident Realty Advisors must work out a few details on rainage and respond to comments from the parish fire department.
In a harshly worded ruling last week, U.S. District Judge Ginger
Berrigan set specific deadlines for parish officials to complete documentation needed for Provident to receive a building permit for the complexes. Berrigan threatened fines of as much as $10,000 per day for each deadline missed after Monday.
