Triple Shooting

Tuesday, April 14, 2009 - 6:05pm

An overnight shootout in Ascension Parish leaves one teenager dead and two adults injured. Authorities say it was a drug deal gone bad.

The drug activity that led to the violent shootout on Beau Jon Ave. wasn’t a secret. In fact, folks around there expected something like this would happen sooner or later. A relative of one neighbor tells us he’s seen sheriff’s deputies parked in front of 15005 Beau Jon Ave. several times. “Everybody gets along here, there’s never any trouble except for this one house.”

Early Tuesday morning a 911 call was made saying three people inside of the house had been shot and one was injured. The caller also told authorities the suspect had fled in a white car. Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies stopped a Mercury Grand Marquis that was less than a mile away from the house. The driver and passenger, 21-year-old Corneil “Big Head” Oby and Keitheon Carter were both arrested. Two other suspects, Andre and Diane Smith, were also arrested. The shooting victims were transported to the hospital, which is where 17-year-old Kolby Lambert was pronounced dead at 9:00 this morning.

APSO Chief Deputy, Col. Tony Bacala, says, “Several of the witnesses that were inside the house that were present when the shooting was taking place admitted readily that they were at the house to obtain and use crack cocaine.” Beyond the crime scene the neighborhood is once again quiet and folks there hope it stays that way. A relative of one of the neighbors says, “Hope they clean it up, something needs to happen because there are all of these kids around here and all that comes out of the house is drugs that all that comes out of there.”

All four suspects have been booked, each charged with one count of first degree murder and three counts of attempted first degree murder. All four suspects also face armed robbery and aggravated burglary charges.
