About 300 Louisiana soldiers returned from Iraq today. It was a tearful reunion for many. Our David D’Aquin is tracking this story and caught up with soldiers as they reunited with their families.
There were tears of joy as soldiers returned home from Iraq after a year long mission. Most of the soldiers in the 255th aviation regiment are coming home from Iraq for a second time, some seeing their children for the first time. Some soldiers have seen their children only once since they were born. SPC Steven McGraw says, “She really don’t remember me, but we’re home now, so that’s what matters most.”
We caught up with a soon to be married National Guard couple who went to Iraq together. Now they’re home and they’re anxious to start their family together. Parents, grandparents, and children are all excited to see their soldiers coming home and soldiers are so happy back to be in the United States.
Most families tell us they have big plans for the Easter weekend. Most of all, they say, they’ll be celebrating family and the safe return of their soldiers. Many of the soldiers are returning from their second tour of duty. They left in March of last year and the unit put in about 15,000 flying hours overseas.
