Ascension Parish drainage crews continue Frog Bayou pumping
PRAIRIEVILLE, LA — Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced Monday East Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 crews will continue pumping water from the Bluff Swamp Basin through Frog Bayou into Bayou Manchac for the next couple of weeks to lower water levels in the basin.
Crews installed two temporary pumps on Friday and began pumping water at the rate of 68,000 gallons per minute through 42-inch pipes. The Bluff Swamp Basin, located in the northwestern part of Ascension Parish, experienced high water levels during heavy rainfall that blanketed the region several weeks ago.
Alligator Bayou Road at the Frog Bayou Lock location will be closed while the pumping operations continue.
President Martinez said drainage officials expect the work to last for at least two weeks.
