A man was arrested for allegedly striking his elderly family member several times, causing her bone fractures and severe bruising.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident originally occurred on Feb. 12. Police responded to a home on Kingham Street in Lake Charles regarding a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they learned that the elderly family member has a protective order against the suspect, Matthew F. Taylor, 42. Officials say he has six prior arrests for battery against the same family member that go back to 2005.

The 72-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. During her examination the doctor noticed that the woman was suffering from a fractured collar bone, two sprained wrists and multiple contusions to the head, upper arms and hands.

Taylor, who reportedly has a lengthy criminal history, was arrested on Feb. 22 for Violation of a Protective Order, Second Degree Battery, and Cruelty to the Infirmed. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. His bond was set at $75,000.
