BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Dozens of parents packed Cortana Mall for their chance to pickup an East Baton Rouge Parish School System Pre-K application.
It's all part of the parish's annual Preschool Palooza and Pre-K roundup. The school system launched a new application process for the 2013-2014 school year. Now kids are accepted based on academic ability instead of a lottery system.
"We have over 1,000 children in this city who don't get any Pre-K services at all," Patience Travasos, resource coordinator for pre-school for EBRPSS, explained. "They don't go to head start or child care, and we are looking for that population. We are looking for those children who haven't had any services or who have had very limited services."
