
Centerfielder Chris Murrill drove a two-out double to right center, plating shortstop Steven Gauthe for the winning run as the Colonels defeated Southern 3-2 Tuesday night at Ray Didier Field.
Nicholls improves to 6-7 on the season, while the Jaguars drop to 3-6.
Freshman Brad Delatte picked up the win, throwing 2.0 innings of one-hit relief. The lefty improves to 1-0 on the year.
Murrill led off the eighth with a single up the middle and scored two batters later when rightfielder Scott Moseley singled through the left side, evening the score at 2-2.
With a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, Murrill led Nicholls, scoring a run and driving in an RBI.
Moseley and designated hitter Adam Miley each turned in a 2-for-4 night with an RBI apiece.
Nicholls got on the board in the first inning as second baseman Keith Kulbeth scored on a single by Miley.
Southern scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth, both unearned.
Nicholls finished with nine hits on the night to the Jaguars' six.
