Deputies: Motorcycle gang behind Fred's on the River shooting

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 - 3:14pm

Ascension Parish Sheriff's detectives say members of a violent motorcycle gang are behind an early morning shooting at Fred's on the river.

Detectives say 31-year-old Steven Hoff had just been kicked out of the "Bandidos" motorcycle gang and running into some members at the bar caused a fight.

Detectives say four bikers started beating Hoff up and one of his friends pulled out a gun to stop them.

Authorities say the gang backed off for a short time until suspected gang leader 31-year old Joe Louis Flores pulled out his own gun and shot Hoff several times.

Authorities say Flores aka "Bandido Joe" was arrested on second degree murder charges. Joining him in jail are three other suspected gang members:

31-year-old Jose Felisiano Flores
35-year-old Derrick Johnson
38-year-old Chester Hunnicutt.

AUthorities say Hoff's friend 39-year-old Brian Mcdonald was also taken into custody charged with aggravated assault.

Hoff is in stable condition.

The incident has Fred's on the River regulars in disbelief but some say its still not enough to get them to switch bars.
