METAIRIE, La. (AP) - A Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy shot a
man who they say had just robbed a Metairie tobacco shop.
Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said
the man was in critical condition with multiple wounds.
Fortunato said deputies had staked out the shop because it had
been robbed several times in recent weeks.
About 8:30 p.m. Monday, deputies confronted the unidentified
suspect believed to be committing a robbery. Fortunato said a
deputy fired after the man pointed a gun in the direction of the
officer.
He said the man is believed to have been involved in at least 13
armed robberies in Jefferson Parish and other robberies in the
metro New Orleans area.
