‘I’m a Cajun’ could soon be option for your driver’s license
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Potentially coming soon to your driver’s license will be a way to show your love for Louisiana.
The House of Representatives is set to debate a bill that would let people to get the phrase "I'm a Cajun" next to their name and birthday. The Senate already approved it and people we spoke with think it's a great idea.
"Being a Cajun is such a big thing right now and it always has been and it’s a big part of who a lot of people are in this part of the state," Paul Mladenka, Couyon’s BBQ, said.
It would cost $5 a year to put that on your license. There's another bill being discussed that would let you put "I'm Cajun and proud" or "I'm Creole and proud" on your license plate, too.
"It’s part of our food. It’s our culture. It’s our way of entertaining,” Greg Tucker, Baton Rouge resident, said. “I’m a Cajun and I’m proud of it."
All the proceeds would go to programs that promote the French language around the state.
