BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Baton Rouge residents are working to bring some Christmas cheer into the lives of millions of needy children around the world.
"If you can take one child and save one child to where he's not hopeless anymore and he can go back to his community and spread that hope, that what its all about,” says Gary Chapman.
Pastor Chapman has been participating in Operation Christmas Child for two years with his church in Denham Springs. “You have to remember that the children who are receiving these may time have never owned anything of their own in their life, not even a tooth brush and these boxes can change their lives," says, Chapman.
And to join in and be a part of Operation Christmas child, it’s pretty simple.
Chapman says, "You fill one of these out then you pick up a box wither a go box like this or any old show box you have at your house, if you take a regular shoe box which there best you can decorate it anyway you want it, personalize it and then you take that to the store and you fill it with all kinds of goodies, hair bow, cards bracelets."
Then take them to one of the five drop off locations in the Baton Rouge area.
"One of the greatest things you can put in there is a picture of yourself and a letter," says Gary Chapman.
And even though it’s called Operation Christmas Child these boxes are distributed throughout the entire year.
"For the first time in their life some of them say someone somewhere about me cares enough to send something to me."
