AROUND THE WORLD (FOX44) – Australia, where a 28-year-old surfer in survived a shark attack last night and his friends saw it all go down. The shark was about 6-foot long, the size of his surfboard. It's believed the shark could have been a bronze whaler based on its size and the location of the attack.

Japan – Prayers for a profitable New Year. Merchants head to an ancient shrine to ask for help from the Gods of fortune. Stocks plunged after the earthquake and tsunami. But promising news they are up on the first day of trading in 2012.

Mexico – The grand warlock made his predictions about what might happen in the coming year. He says Syria will be invaded, President Obama will be defeated, and Venezuela’s president will suffer a relapse of the Cancer he's been suffering.

England – And a New Year means its time to take inventory at the London zoo and that’s not an easy task.
