Bolivia, Burundi, Switzerland, France
AROUND THE WORLD (FOX44) – Bolivia, thousands of fires are still burning in that country tonight. Farmers began burning crops to prepare for fall planting despite dry conditions and high winds. Fires jumped barriers and have burned out of control for days. The smoke so bad in some spots that children and the elderly had to go to the emergency room. The fires haven't been this bad in almost 8-years. Now local and federal officials are talking higher fines for farmers who set uncontrolled burns.
Burundi – Gunmen stormed into a bar and killed at least 36-people. The attack sparked new fears of a return to civil war and ethnic violence between different factions. Witnesses say the gunmen; some disguised as policemen, burst into the bar near the capital, forced people to the ground, and began firing. The country has only seen peace since 2009.
Switzerland – Winter has arrived and up to 15-inches of snow fell in the southeastern part of the country early this morning. Ski resort owners are happy because more snow is expected later this week. A cold front lowered the snow line to 26-hundred feet and rainfall turned to snow. A number of mountain passes were closed but no injuries were reported.
France – Paleontologists in France showed off a skull that's estimated to be some 20-million years old. The skull was found underneath layers of sediment. The skull comes from a distant ancestor of today's great apes. Scientists believe it was about 10-years-old when it died.
