Around The World (FOX44) USA- Missouri congressman Todd Akin apologized today for his comments that women's bodies are able to prevent pregnancies if they are victims of, quote, "a legitimate rape"
Akin appeared on Mike Huckabee's radio show and said he used the wrong words in the wrong way.
Akin acknowledged that rape is never legitimate. Despite calls for Akin to step down from his senatorial race The Missouri congressman has pledged to continue running.
Fires are raging in the American west in what has become one of the most brutal fire seasons in history. There are 35 dangerous fires now burning in 10 western states in a brutal season that has already seen 6.7 million acres consumed by flames.
Syria- Syrian desperate to leave the fighting in their homeland are crossing the border into neighboring countries. Refugee camps have been set up in Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria since fighting broke out in Syria 17 months ago.
The bulk of the refugees are living in camps in Turkey and many people arriving there are in urgent need of medical care. The Syria uprising has left an estimated 20 thousand dead since it started in March of last year. The UN estimates that two million people have been forced to abandon their homes but still remain in the country.
