BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Funeral services have been arranged for the young boy who died after allegedly being beaten to death by his father.
The EBR Parish Coroner’s Office arranged the services for Xzayvion Riley to take place on Saturday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. It will be held at Wilson-Wooddale Funeral Home located at 1553 Wooddale Boulevard.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office began investigating the case on Tuesday, June 12 when they were called to the family’s home located on Coy Ave. Xzavyion was unresponsive when they arrived and had roughly 60 bruises as well as adult teeth marks on his body. The 8-year-old was transported to a local hospital where he died that same day.
An autopsy revealed that Xzavyion died from an infection caused by a ruptured bowl. The coroner says that was caused by blunt force trauma to his abdomen.
Parents Michael Robertson, 46, and Lavaughn Riley, 32, were arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder.
During questioning, Riley admitted causing bruises on the child during a beating. She also said that Xzavyion’s father caused bruises and scratches on the child’s neck. She also admitted that she witnessed Robertson beating their son, and she did not attempt to stop him. She noted that on one occasion it sounded as if Robertson was throwing their son against the bedroom wall, and she did nothing to intervene.
Xzavyion had to siblings. They told detectives that their father beat Xzayvion with his closed fist from noon Monday until Monday evening. Xzayvion allegedly complained of stomach pains and vomited throughout the night on Monday and was too weak to get out of bed on Tuesday.
The sibling also said she witnessed Robertson bite the child on a regular basis as a form of discipline.
Robertson denied any involvement in his son's injuries.
Both Riley and Robertson have been in a Baton Rouge courtroom and both were denied bond.
The cost of the service has been donated by Wilson-Wooddale.
