A New Orleans artist is using recycled Mardi Gras beads to give back to the city of Natchitoches.

Bead Town is a compilation of classes, exhibits and art works that feature more than 100 mosaic pieces.

Natchitoches will be celebrating its tri-centennial later this year. In honor of the celebration, a 48-foot mosaic is being created to celebrate the city. Bead Town artist Stephan Wanger says this mosaic will be unlike any other in the country.

"Make no mistake - we have here an art form that's unique in the world,” stated Wanger. “It comes from Louisiana and is promoting the state of Louisiana in such way that any state in the United States will envy us. It is that unique of an exhibit."

Three hundred prints of the Natchitoches Bead Town mosaic will be sold for $300 each.

The sales from each print will then enter an education trust fund that can't be opened until the year 2313.
