The attorney for an ex-priest who is accused of sex crimes against children reportedly requested a major bond reduction and to have a taped confession thrown out.

Former priest Mark Broussard of Duson was originally booked on 224 criminal charges and his bond was set at $3.4 million. Only 5 of those charges remain, so his lawyer requested that his bond be reduced to $200,000.

The prosecution argued that Broussard is not only a flight risk, but a “dangerous perpetrator.”

Judge David Ritchie has yet to rule on that decision. However, he did deny a motion to suppress a video statement recorded on March 22, 2012 in which Broussard admitted to fondling a victim in the church rectory.

Broussard’s trial is set to being on Sept. 16, 2013. He is currently being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
