"Bad gasoline" still causes car problems: Exxon investigation continues
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — "Bad gasoline" is causing a lot of problems in Baton Rouge. Well, Exxon Mobil has been investigating, since many of the problems seemed stem from its gasoline. And Thursday, Exxon Mobil officials announced they believe they've found the source of the problem.
Exxon Mobil released a statement to the public this morning apologizing for the incontinence they tell us they believe the problem comes from two batches of fuel distributed in mid march
But were still talking about bad gas here, some may ask what does that really mean?
Filling up or topping off; we all need gas to get around, but now some drivers are in a bind. They are dealing with problems they never saw coming.
"It appears to be through word on the street that we're having some issues with some bad fuel," said Louis Lecoq, a car technician at the Hollingsworth Ford dealership in Baton Rouge.
Lecoq has seen nearly a dozen cars in the past few days with major issues. They are issues he says he would attribute to these batches of "bad gas".
“The issues are on start up, basically engines running rough long term, spinning over or not turning. Eventually it will start but it will run very rough.”
Exxon narrowed the problem down to two separate shipments of fuel in March but it didn't just go to Exxon stations the refinery distributes to a variety of stations in the area.
“We have to see what happens,” said Lecoq. “We just don’t know what’s going on yet.”
Mechanics tell us bad gas could be just a combination of chemicals or even possibly too much ethanol but this situation in particular is something Lecoq says it is not only rare, but random.
“Sometimes we do have fuel issues in the past for various reasons but something like this we just see this random. It’s just a random thing we’ve seen in the past 3 or 4 days."
And unfortunately until all tests are done making people aware of these fuel concerns is all that can be done.
Some recommendations for drivers are to always save your receipts, also try and always get your gas at the same gas station so if there is an issue, you know the source. Also take your car in as soon as your light goes on or your car doesn't run right.
