Two Baton Rouge groups got together to sweat and bring a message of good health into neighborhoods off North Foster near Capital Elementary.

"Just walking along the route folks were walking to the corners and their porches asking us what we were doing and that's the goal of it promoting awareness," Eugene Collins, with 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, described.

The 100 Black Men and Heals the Hurt hosted a community walk Saturday. The idea was to inspire others to come out and take control of their health.

Walk organizers say it can be hard for people to talk about things like obesity and smoking, so they brought the conversation into the community.

Walkers of all ages pushed through the heat and tried to recruit their neighbors to join the fitness fight.

"It's good right now, so we can sweat," Riantae Freeman, Heals the Hurt, said. "We can actually get a workout not only keep everyone aware. It's a good thing for us to come together."

After the walk, people could pick up brochures and other tools to help keep their health on track.
