Baton Rouge man killed in overnight crash, I-12 shut down for hours

A Baton Rouge man was killed in a crash on I-12 East in Denham Springs. The incident shut down lanes for several hours.

The Denham Springs Police Department reports that the crash occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on I-12 near Juban. Officials say the three vehicles were involved in the crash, including a Cadillac Deville, Ford Econoline Van, and a 18-wheeler box cargo trailer.

The driver in the Cadillac Deville, Melvin Beecham, 37, of Baton Rouge, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four occupants of the van sustained minor injuries.

The Interstate was shut down until roughly 8:30 a.m.

No charges have been filed at this time. However, the crash is still under investigation.
