BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Huge crowds came out to the LSU student union for the 2012 Baton Rouge Pride Fest.
The event celebrates the Gay and Lesbian community in the Capitol City. Fest goers got a chance to groove to music, get some grub, and learn about different health and social issues .
Tom Merrill is the chairmen of Baton Rouge Pride. He says event's like pride fest help raise awareness and community spirit.
"They give everybody a chance to get out and just celebrate with one another," said Merrill. "But also, they increase visibility that the community is here . That we are your friends. We are your neighbors. What we talk about what we want really does matter to you, because you like us and we like you. "
Last year's event drew in a crowd of over 3,500 over the course of the day. merrill says this year is on track to beat that.
