BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Another list topper for the Capitol City, and it's not a good one - Baton Rouge is number two in the country in new HIV cases.
According to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control, Baton Rouge has 52 cases for every 100,000 people.
Even though the statistics are from 2010, the Baton Rouge AIDS Society says if something isn't done about it soon, we'll rank at the top of the list.
"We've always been in the top ten. So when you look at number two or number one, it's not a big difference - that's been going to go back and forth over the years,” stated A.J. Johnson with the BR AIDS Society. “What we are doing (to prevent new cases) isn’t enough.”
New Orleans is third in new HIV cases. Miami tops the list.
