Baton Rouge has some of the healthiest eyes in the country, according to a new study by VSP Vision Care.

The report also shows one in four children has an undetected vision problem that can interfere with learning.

In the Capital City, parents are combatting that statistic. Opthamologist Elmo Dean said that local parents are helping their kids see better by keeping up with eye exams and understanding the importance of eye health.

“Vision Service Plan started a program to see which areas of the country where the children were receiving the best care and more children were being seen, and they started their eye health index,” stated Dean. “Baton Rouge happened to score in the top ten."

Other cities that made the list include Los Angeles, Detroit and Portland.
