BAYOU CORNE, LA (FOX44) — In Assumption Parish, another huge chunk of land was swallowed up by the sinkhole in Bayou Corne.
Now, the area's off limits to response workers until further notice.
Assumption Parish officials say the ground on one side of the sinkhole caved in, taking an old access ramp and dozens of trees with it.
Seismic activity around the sinkhole has increased in the past two weeks. Experts say that's why the hole keeps growing.
The sinkhole is about 13 acres in size at the moment.
Texas Brine is negotiating buyouts with Bayou Corne residents who are fed up and ready to move out.
