LAFAYETTE, LA (FOX44) - Friday, March 11, 2011, a workshop in Lafayette brought folks from all over the country to practice an ancient art.
Blacksmithing has been around since the time of the Roman empire. This workshop led by a Brian Brazille, a smith with 35 years experience taught would-be smiths how to make things out of steel.
Friday was the hammer class, but they've made everything from chisels and home fixtures to beautiful knives and jewelry.
Lyle Wynn was Brazille's assistant, with 13 years of experience, and with each pounding of the hammer he knew he was sharing the techniques of this long forgotten art.
"It's great to know that there's a blacksmithing trade that many people are aware of and many people don't do anymore, and to be able to come out and share our knowledge so that way they don't have to struggle the way we have."
