Body of missing man recovered in Grand Isle; officials suspect drowning
GRAND ISLE, LA (FOX44) — The body of a man reported missing from Labadieville was recovered yesterday in Grand Isle. Although an autopsy will have to confirm the cause of death, officials believe he drowned.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office received the missing person’s complaint for Michael Blanchard, 51, on Monday, June 10 after he did not arrive for work, nor return to his home.
Detectives were able to ping his cell phone, which was located in the Grand Isle area. The local police department, along with several other agencies, assisted with the search for Blanchard.
Shortly after nightfall, Blanchard’s body spotted on top of some rock jetties that run parallel to the beach in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Blanchard’s body was removed by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. However, they do not suspect foul play at this time.
