BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX 44) — BATON ROUGE,LA(NBC33TV) — About a month ago Pat Juneau took on the huge task of trying to figure out how much money those affected by one of the biggest manmade disasters in U.S. history deserve. B.P. expects that number to be around $7 billion. But he says unlike his predecessor Ken Feiberg, the way he's handing out the money will be completely objective.

"The goal of this program, if you had ten people who had the same claim, identical claim, they oughta get the same amount of money," says Juneau.

Feinberg spent a year and a half handing out more than $6 billion to more than one million people. Feinberg though did deny thousands of claims. Juneau says just because you didn't get your money before doesn't mean it'll happen again.

"There are a lot of people who are eligible under this settlement program who were not eligible under the Gulf Coast Claims process. And so the message, I've said this from Naples, Florida to Grand Isle. If you're in doubt file the claim," states Juneau.

To help people file those claims, he's helped set up 18 facilities across the Gulf Coast. More than 20,000 people have already taken advantage and filed. He says with all the money B.P. has put into setting up this new claims process, this will be an economic boom for the state's economy. This is one that has seen massive cuts to healthcare and education over the past several years.

'It's something positive that's happened here. There's no cramdowns. There's no force of anybody doing anything. There's some good things economcally that are gonna happen here to the state," says Juneau.
