There's a new grocery store coming to Baton Rouge! Rouse's Supermarket will open near Woman's Hospital next year. It's great news for people who live in the area and for local business owners.

This new grocery store and the stores that will follow could bring a lot more people to the area. The city's first Rouse's will be located just past Woman's Hospital near Kleinpeter Dairy on Airline Highway.

Sara Sanders is excited to get a new supermarket on her side of town. She's owned a business here on Airline Highway for four years now. She loves the location for what it is now and what could be.

"That'll be good. That'll be great. This area's growing. The traffic flows very good here," Sander said. "Well the fact that it's still Baton Rouge, and it's a growing community. It's a very strong growing community, and a lot of people know a lot of people here."

Rouse's Supermarket is part of a chain of supermarkets based in Thibodaux. Long Farm Village developers have nearly 250 acres to work with, and less than a week ago, they sold about five of those acres to Rouse's.

Sanders said she thinks the new addition will be good for everyone.

"I think the neighborhoods would love it. You know the businesses would like that," Sanders said. "I think people forget this side of town, when they think Highland Road, they don't think of this side of town. So, I think it'll let everybody know that Highland Road comes all the way out here to Airline Highway."

As for the rest of the land, developers are planning on a shopping and residential area.

There's going to be a lot of construction going on, but Sanders said, it's the sign of good things to come.

"As much space that we have here with roads and traffic lights, I think it will be okay. I don't see it being a problem," Sanders said. "It'll just improve it. It's community involvement, and businesses in the community can only thrive, when the community's growing."

They also hope the new construction will bring a lot of jobs to the area.
