BRCC, Apollo Theater present James Brown dance tribute
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Harlem's world famous Apollo Theater, Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC), and the BRCC Student Governement Association have partnered to present, “James Brown: Get on the Good Foot, a Celebration in Dance.”
This event takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 8:00 p.m., in BRCC's Magnolia Theater, located on the Mid City Campus, located at 201 Community College Drive.
“Get on the Good Foot” pays homage to James Brown, an American master who influenced the globe with his innovative music and precision in choreography.
The Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) named "one of America's top troupes" by Dance Magazine, performs new works to a feel-good medley of James Brown hits, choreographed by a who's who of international dance masters.
There are also event leading up to the performance:
3:00-5:00 p.m.- Open Rehearsal. The open rehearsal will provide an opportunity to view the creative process and the steps in mounting a touring production. This event will be held in the Magnolia Theater.
7:00-7:30 p.m.- Joan Myers Brown Preshow Lecture. Founder and artistic director of the Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) and recent recipient of the National Medal of Arts. Ms. Brown will discuss her experiences as a founder of Philadanco, one of America's most prolific cultural dance institutions in America. Her lecture will discuss artistic programming choices, training and development opportunities in the field of dance and business entrepreneurship. This event will be held in the Magnolia Library Reading Room.
Post-Performance Discussion: Audience members will have the opportunity to discuss the production of Get On The Good Foot with cast members. This discussion will provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about the artistic work and production elements. This event will be held in the Magnolia Theater.
