Baton Rouge Community College has stepped up its recycling campaign and is being recognized for its efforts to eliminate pollution.

DEQ has given BRCC the Environmental Leader Program (ELP) Award for their Geaux Green event last April.

The community college had interactive display stations that featured sustainability practices.

"We were trying to get students and faculty aware of recycling, reducing, reusing and refusing," stated Laura Younger with BRCC.

In all, 15 awards were given out at the ceremony. BRCC officials hope to expand the project even more, and say they're thrilled to be recognized by DEQ for their efforts.
