BRPD Chief White weighs in on possible move of headquarters

BRPD Chief Dewayne White is weighing in on the possibility of moving BRPD headquarters to the old Woman’s Hospital building. He says the move will greatly improve the work done by his officers.

With the Metro Council's approval, the city-parish will buy the old Woman's Hospital site for both the police and sheriff's department. BRPD's current building downtown is 80 years old and falling apart, and Chief White says it's too small.

The new space will allow for much better communication, even between the two agencies.

"That is in the core of the city,” Chief White told NBC33 News. “It's premium location. The facility provides adequate space for the police department and the sheriff's office. Because we are working closely together, it now allows us to work even more closely together."

Chief White added that the new space may need some minor remodeling, so he's not sure when the police department would be able to move in.
