BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Baton Rouge Police Chief Dewayne White will no longer run the department. Sources say he was fired this morning. However, officials have only confirmed that he is no longer employed.
Chief White was in attendance at a press conference this morning about gun safety. Mayor Holden made no indication at that meeting that Chief White would be leaving the department. However, a representative with the Baton Rouge Police Department has confirmed that he will not remain in the position.
White was appointed police chief in June 2011 after an exhaustive search. During his first full year in office the department saw a small increase in homicides. He also launched the BRAVE Project, which focused its efforts on the 70805 area code.
