CATS to receive GPS units in their buses

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - 8:00am

A $1.5 million investment is coming to a CATS bus near you.

Thanks in large part to grant money, buses with the Capitol Area Transit System will now be equipped with a GPS system that tracks their movements and broadcasts that information to smartphones and computers; that information will give riders a more precise estimated time of arrival for that bus.

CEO Brian Marshall says it's a major improvement for CATS riders, so they're not left guessing if they've missed their bus or not.

He says several other transit systems throughout the country are using the tracking technology.
