Parts of Old South Baton Rouge got a make over saturday. More than 30 volunteers came out to pick up trash littering the historic neighborhood.

They picked up more than 60 bags of trash and 25 tires! It's all part of the national service event called CommuniTyler .

The groups weren't just looking for little pieces of litter. They wanted to pick up big pieces of junk that had been sitting in the neighborhood for years.

The idea make it easier for the community to keep their area beautiful!

"Keeping up the norms of the neighborhood. So, if you make it clean then people aren't going to feel as easy when they want to just throw a bottle out of the car, but if you see a lot of litter already there it seems like it's no big deal just to add one more piece of litter," Euhbin Song, with CommuniTyler, explained.

All the trash now goes to waste management to be weighed and disposed of.

Participating groups included:The CommuniTyler Organization along with the Center for Planning Excellence (CPEX), Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful, (KBRB), and Waste Management of Baton Rouge Kiwanis Club of South Baton Rouge, and the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition.
