Cold body, warm soul: Law enforcement kick off annual fundraiser with polar plunge

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 - 5:46pm

Local law enforcement were “freezin’ for a reason” this morning after they jumped into Cabela’s lake.

Why did they do it?

It was the kick-off for the annual fundraiser that benefits Special Olympics. Now in its fifth year, the Polar Plunge might not feel great on the body, but it does wonders for the soul.

“It was cold, but we’re ‘freezin’ for a reason,’ and that is to support Special Olympics of Louisiana,” Trooper Jared Sandifer said. “On the actual fundraiser day and people can sign up individually or in teams. Today was just to get the word out and try to raise awareness for the event. It’s a fun event to help raise money.”

Representatives from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Gonzales Police and Louisiana State Police all took the plunge at Cabelas this morning to show. Your chance to take the plunge will happen on Saturday, March 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
