Coroner: Nearly a dozen more murders this year than last year in EBR Parish

Wednesday, September 26, 2012 - 7:00am

The murders continue a disturbing trend in EBR Parish.

According to the East Baton Rouge coroner, there have already been 85 this year, including the murder of a pregnant woman on Madison earlier today.

The city-parish has seen about a dozen more murders than at this same time last year.

The coroner says some of the causes for the increase are poverty and a breakdown of the nuclear family. He says law enforcement is vital to turning these numbers around.

"We're seeing certainly a lot of gun related violence,” stated EBR Coroner Dr. William Clark.

There were 90 homicides all of last year in East Baton Rouge Parish.
