A Thibodaux man accused of stealing from the tip jar at a bar is facing additional drug charges after his home was searched. Police were able to identify him due to his descriptive T-shirt.

“Witnesses reported that he was highly intoxicated and was wearing a shirt that said ‘I be killin’ it,’” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said.

It all started on Sunday, July 28 at roughly 10:00 p.m. Police were called to a local bar because of the theft.

“Witnesses reported that a man was sitting on a bar stool and when he got up he reached his hand into the tip jar and stole between $10 and $15 in cash,” Melancon said. "He then left the bar."

Officers searched the area but could not find anyone matching the description. Then, roughly 30 minutes later, they were called to a domestic disturbance in the nearby area.

“When they responded to the residence, the officers recognized the man,” Melancon said. “He was wearing a T-shirt that said ‘I be killin’ it.’”

Witnesses at the bar were able to positively identify Brad Leonard, 26, as the man who stole from the tip jar. Officers secured a search warrant and found more incriminating evidence in his home.

“Officers were able to find residue and cocaine inside the home,” Melancon noted.

Leonard was arrested and charged with Theft, Domestic Abuse Battery, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Cocaine. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $8,000.
