SULPHUR, LA — An 11-year-old boy was arrested after he led deputies on a high speed chase down I-10.
On Wednesday, May 30, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a stop on a car about 2 miles west of Sulphur that was traveling westbound on I-10 for a traffic violation. When the deputy activated his unit’s lights and sirens signaling for the driver to stop, the driver did not comply and continued to flee from him.
The driver, later identified as an 11 year old boy from Lafayette, began to drive very aggressively, traveling at speeds in excess of 120 mph and swerving from lane to lane, passing other vehicles on the interstate.
When the boy attempted to flee from deputies using the Vinton exit ramp, he was unable to maintain control of the car, striking the guard rail causing the car to collide head on into the opposite guard rail. After the car came to a stop, deputies were able to restrain the juvenile and place him under arrest. He did not have any visible injuries.
The juvenile, who told deputies his intent was to drive to Houston, was transported to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and after further investigation he was charged with reckless operation; and flight from an officer, and released to his parents.
