Acadia deputy recovering after being shot by suspect; State Police investigating

State Police continue to investigate a case that resulted in the death of a man after he allegedly shot a sheriff’s deputy in Acadia Parish.

Officials tell us the incident happened at roughly 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 when two deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance complaint in Crowley at a home located in the 6100 block of Leger Road.

When deputies arrived and went into the house they found the suspect, James A. Trahan, 41, armed with a shotgun. They say Trahan fired shots at the deputies, striking one in the leg. Deputies returned fire and Trahan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy who was shot was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently recovering in the hospital.

It is standard procedure for the State Police to investigate all cases where an officer discharges a weapon to ensure that all protocol is followed. The case remains under investigation.
