Acadia Parish burglary spree halted after traffic stop; man arrested

A crime spree in Acadia Parish came to a halt after a routine traffic stop led to an arrest in St. Landry Parish.

Garrett James Miller, 23, of Iota was pulled over after traveling 74 in a 65 mph zone.

A deputy located a partially-smoked marijuana cigarette, and $8,540 in cash on Miller’s person. Also found was a .22 caliber revolver.

Detectives transported Miller to the St. Landry Parish Jail where he admitted to five burglaries in Acadia Parish.Detectives then notified the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Department.

One of the burglaries involved over $6,000 dollars worth of tools. Some of the tools were recovered in Eunice and some were located in a pawn shop in Baton Rouge.

The gun and the cash that were located on Miller were from a vehicle burglary in Acadia Parish where approximately $10,000 in cash and a .22 caliber revolver were stolen.

The cash and the revolver were returned to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Miller was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms, Firearm in the Presence of CDS, along with several charges pending in Acadia Parish.
