NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX44) — A New Orleans man faces a $300,000 bond for allegedly setting a church on fire while roughly 148 people were inside.
Firefighters were called to the Kingdom Hall church in Gentilly on Sunday, May 19 shortly before 10:30 a.m. Officials say ten units and 23 firefighters responded to the call. Fortunately, members of the congregation were able to extinguish most of it before their arrival.
Church members quickly realized that the fire was intentional and identified Sanders Floyd as the man responsible. He was captured on camera pouring a flammable substance in front of the church doors and igniting it.
NOPD officers were able to locate and arrest Floyd for the crime. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison for one count of Simple Arson of a Religious Building and Aggravated Arson.
