Attempted murder suspect arrested after evading deputies for two weeks

The victim of an attempted murder is continuing to recover and deputies arrested at least one man who is said to be responsible.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Paul “Diddy” Charles, 22, of Morgan City for the robbery and shooting that occurred on Friday, June 14.

The victim told investigators he was outside of a lounge located on Hwy. 182 at around 2:00 a.m. when he was approached by 3 black males. The victim says the men tried to rob him, then shot him.

Detectives were able to identify Charles as one of the individuals involved in the incident. They have not said whether or not he is the believed shooter, but did say he is charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and Attempted Robbery with a Firearm.

Officials did not provide any updates relative to the additional suspects in this case.

Charles was located Friday, June 28 in the morning. Additionally, he had an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear on a Traffic Charge. No bond has been set at this time.

Officials say the victim has been released from the hospital and is continuing to recover.
