Baton Rouge caregiver accused of stealing $8,600 from elderly assisted living resident

A caregiver at a Baton Rouge assisted living facility was arrested after she allegedly stole $8,600 from an elderly resident.

According to the arrest report, the Financial Crimes Division of the Baton Rouge Police Department arrested Traci Roberts, 47, for the alleged theft which occurred between May and July 2013.

The investigation was launched after a local bank contacted the elderly victim regarding 11 checks that had been cashed on his personal account. The victim claimed that he never wrote the checks, nor did he give permission for them to be cashed by anyone else.

Detectives identified Roberts as a suspect after reviewing surveillance footage at the bank. She was one of the victim’s caregivers in May 2013.

Roberts allegedly took the victim’s checkbook from a cabinet in his apartment.

Roberts was arrested and charged with Theft of Assets of an Elderly Person, Exploitation of the Infirm, felony Theft (11 counts), Forgery (11 counts) and Monetary Instrument Abuse (11 counts). She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
