A former Louisiana priest is facing more charges today that include indecent behavior with a juvenile and sexual battery. This is his third arrest over four months, and his total bond is now nearly $3.5 million.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has re-arrested Mark A. Broussard, 56, of Duson, La. Broussard is currently incarcerated at the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

Broussard was first booked on Thursday, March 22 and charged with 2 counts of aggravated battery and 52 counts of sexual battery. Those charges stem from an investigation that alleges Broussard’s involvement in an inappropriate relationship with an 8 year old boy between 1986 and 1989 while the victim and his family were attending St. Henry Catholic Church.

Reports indicate that the arrest was made after documents were obtained from Broussard’s personnel file. Those documents indicate sexual contact with at least four other male children as well. Those incidents, however, were not reported to authorities.

Broussard’s bond was set at $1 million and he was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

The investigation continued after Broussard’s first arrest, which led to a second set of charges issued on Monday, April 2. Those additional charges include 100 counts of sexual battery and 40 counts of aggravated rape.

The second set of charges came after a new victim came forward. The victim, who is now 36 years old, claims that Broussard molested him between January 1986 and December 1991 when he was between the ages of 11-16 years old.

The victim alleges that all of the inappropriate contact occurred at Our Lady of Heaven Church in Lake Charles, where Broussard was a priest.

Broussard’s bond was set at $2 million after the second set of charges.

On Wednesday, June 27, Broussard was re-arrested and charged with an additional 24 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and 6 additional counts of sexual battery.

The new set of charges are due to a third victim, who Broussard allegedly made sexual contact with between 1986 and 1987. The victim was an 8 year old.

Broussard’s bond for the new set of charges was set at $400,000.

Broussard remains in the Calcasieu Correctional Center with his total bond at $3,420,000.

Victims of sexual crimes have 30 years after their 18th birthday to report incidents to law enforcement.
