BR man shot in both legs is listed in critical condition

A Baton Rouge man is in critical condition after he was shot in the leg this morning. EMS workers tell us that type of injury is not very common, but does happen if the femoral artery is damaged.

BRPD investigators were called to a home on Terrace Street at roughly 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24. When they arrived they found a 39 year old man shot in both his legs. Witnesses say he had been standing on his front porch when he was shot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the victim is listed in critical condition.

“Most shootings to the leg are not critical or are considered non life threatening, but it’s very possible that someone shot in the leg could become critical if the femoral artery is ruptured or damaged,” Mike Chutz, Baton Rouge EMS, said when explaining in general terms and not speaking specifically to this case. “It would cause rapid blood loss and if the bleeding is not controlled in a timely manner, it can be life threatening.”

Currently investigators are seeking a motive and suspect for this shooting.
